"Saraka" Dafra Drum performance with Wilfried Souly

Souly is a choreographer, dancer, and drummer originally from Burkina Faso in West Africa. He was trained in African traditional and contemporary dances, and focuses on making works that explore, expand, and explode Contemporary African Dance. Souly comes to BCAS from California, where in addition to his considerable accomplishments of choreography, collaboration, instruction, and artistic direction, he lectured at Worlds Arts and Cultures at UCLA.

Each tour takes approximately 60 minutes. Guests are encouraged to arrive early or stay after the tour to explore the musuem on their own, as the tour only covers a small portion of the museum. Limited space is available for these tours and registration is required. Click to register.

Michelle Alexander brings audiences profoundly necessary and meaningful insights on the practice of mass incarceration that plagues the U.S. justice system, as well as eye-opening conversation on how we can end racial caste in America.
